Thingyan @Home LIVE

Myanpwel.com

Brief

The biggest celebration in the Myanmar calendar, Thingyan was effectively cancelled first time ever when the Myanmar government ordered a period of lockdown as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. When once the streets of Myanmar would be have been crowded with revellers celebrating the new year with water and festivities, now the country was to sit this one out with millions of people spending an anxious week inside their homes, often far from family and friends.

Description

The whole team, as part of the NTM Group, wanted to honour the Thingyan Festival, the people stuck inside and the brave heroes on the frontline, working through it to save lives in the fight against coronavirus. This was when we decided to use the power of Myanmar's leading online entertainment platform Loka and ticketing platform Myanpwel to produce the first ever virtual Thingyan experience.

To deliver our full virtual Thingyan experience, Loka's sizable following and Facebook platform played host to a two-day live stream extravangza.

The public got the chance to connect again and to enjoy their favourite celebrities such as Thandar Hlaing and M Seng Lu giving exclusive performances, while also donating to support the fight against coronavirus by donating to the Myanmar Red Cross Society.

Participants followed influencers’ dance routines, learnt how to cook, discovered the latest trends and listened to some stellar live performances.
